The Walking Talking Bible Project is a discipleship series with a primary focus on discipleship (walking), and a secondary focus on evangelism and teaching (talking). Its goal is to plant God’s Word deep in our hearts and minds, so we’ll always have it with us wherever we go.
The Bible memory passages and companion passages in this series have been carefully selected with the goal of covering important Christian doctrines while also addressing specific challenges facing believers and churches in our day.
The series consists of 208 memory passages, making it easy to complete the entire series by memorizing only one passage per week for four years. Each weekly memory passage is accompanied by at least three connection passages and a study guide to provide additional context, insights, challenges, applications, and connections to other parts of Scripture and to issues faced by believers in daily life.
How to Get the Series
Weekly modules are released each Wednesday on the Walking Talking Bible Project blog at:
https://www.churchandnation.com/t/walking-talking-bible-project
Every free or paid Church and Nation subscriber will also receive convenient email copies in their inbox.
Whichever method you use, we encourage you to print the weekly blog post or email so you can record your thoughts and responses. You will really appreciate having these later, especially after you have finished the series. Having these notes will enable you to look back later and see how much you have progressed in your Bible knowledge and understanding.
How the Memory Passages and Supporting Passages were chosen
The selection process was guided by several important criteria. An effort was made to choose passages which would:
provide a balanced (though not complete) overview of biblical theology.
address specific needs of our day.
convey the same meaning in or out of context.
provide ease of memorization and retention.
provide ease of triggering, recalling, and speaking/sharing.
Supporting passages were chosen not just to reinforce the memory passage with additional verses that say the same thing, but to add breadth and depth of understanding by connecting passages to each other, sometimes in unexpected ways. This is intended to help lock the primary passages into one’s memory, provide better understanding for application, and widen the context for recalling and applying the passage in a variety of discussions and circumstances.
Difference Between Volumes
For the most part, Volumes 1 and 2 (Lost and Found) deal with important foundational beliefs, while Volumes 3 and 4 (Salt and Light) deal with application.
Who is the Series For?
The WTBP series was developed specifically to address challenges facing Western Christians, especially those living in the United States. As such, it is expected to be of greatest benefit to Christians living in the West and in other parts of the world being impacted by Western culture and influence. It is appropriate for both new Christians and lifelong students of the Bible, regardless of denomination or church background.
Individual Study or Group Study
The series will be beneficial, whether studied individually or in a group. However, group study can have some potential advantages:
Additional group members may offer additional insights.
Group studies can produce lively and fun discussions that can help prepare group members for having discussions outside of the group.
Where to Begin
The series has been intentionally designed so that each module builds upon what was covered in the previous modules. Therefore, the best place to start is at the beginning, Vol 1 Module 1 (V1-01). If someone wants to join you after you are already part way through the series, there are several ways to proceed:
If you are still near the beginning of the series, you could start over again with them.
If you are near the end of the series, you could finish it and then start again with them.
They could start at the beginning while you continue from where you are. In this case, you would simply discuss the earlier modules they’re studying and save discussion of the later modules you’re studying until the others get to them.
If necessary, they can begin mid-series. This is far from ideal, but it is better than not starting at all.
Translation Choice
The printed and audio versions on our website use the Berean Standard Bible translation. However, you can choose to memorize whatever translation you currently use.
Where to Find the Answers
Finally, some may wonder why I don’t provide answers for the questions in each module. The reason is because one of the important goals of this series is to encourage us to rely on the truth of God’s Word rather than relying on the opinions of other people. People can be wrong, and often are, but God’s word is always right and true. People may attempt to lead us astray, but God’s Word, illumined by the Holy Spirit, will always lead us in the right way. Human wisdom would often have us build our lives on shifting sand, but God’s Word will help us build our lives on Christ, the sure foundation.
If you are a relatively new student of the Bible, don’t worry about questions you are unable to answer in the early parts of your study. You will begin to find answers to these questions as the series progresses and your knowledge of the Bible increases.
Will You Join Us?
The continuing decline of Western churches and culture is a cause of great concern among Christians.
Many are worried about how to protect the hearts and minds of their children.
Others are concerned about how to guard against false teachings.
Still others are distressed by our national sins.
And not just a few long for a way to return the Bible to the public square.
The surest way to accomplish all of these things, and more, is to plant God’s Word deeply in the hearts and minds of God’s people so they will carry it with them wherever they go.
The Walking Talking Bible Project (WTBP) is the best system available for this, not only because of the carefully selected memory verses, but also because of the strategically chosen connection verses that provide context and associations to trigger the right verses for the right situations, exactly when and where they’re needed.
Getting started is easy. You can access the series for free at churchandnation.com. Simply print the first module (V1-01) and go through it at your own pace, either individually or with a group of friends. Completing one module per week will allow you to easily complete an entire volume in one year. Over time, you will acquire a wealth of Bible knowledge that will give you the confidence and ability to stand on God’s Word in your own life and to share it with others.
I truly hope you will join us in this exciting endeavor.

Rick A Knock
